I'm New

What's the Gospel

The word Gospel means "Good News." Our two greatest enemies are sin and death. Jesus defeats sin by crucifixion and defeats death by resurrection. He gives us new hearts, new Spiritual life so we can share in his victory.

The Gospel is the Good News that Jesus gives us FORGIVENESS, HOPE, and GOD. He gives us all these things by virtue of his life, death, burial, and resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

Jesus forgives sins by dying on a cross in our place. the name "Jesus" translates to "The LORD saves." This is precisely what Jesus does -- He saves his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21) How? He takes the punishment we deserve so that we might be free from the guilt of our sin. (1 Peter 2:24) We've all sinned against God and fallen short of his glory, but Jesus makes provision. (Romans 3:9-26)

Jesus defeated sin by his death and defeated death by his resurrection. Pop-culture wants you to believe that there is nothing for you beyond the here-and-now. "You have no soul, no God, and no future." But Jesus has a different message! You have a soul. There is a God. And there is hope and meaning beyond this temporal life. Jesus gives us a true and lasting hope; he himself is our living hope. (1 Peter 1:3-4)

Jesus brings us to God. (1 Peter 3:18) This is called eternal life. (John 17:3) He is the Mediator who reconciles lost sinners to a holy God. (1 Timothy 2:5) "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23) . For those who would have eternal fellowship with God, Jesus is the way. He said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). For those would find true and lasting spiritual rest, Jesus is the way. He summons, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).

These are the basics, but there is much more depth to the Good News of Jesus Christ. We could talk about how it is all by God's GRACE and merciful love, not because we earn or deserve it.

Or, we could talk about how a person needs to respond to the Gospel -- BY FAITH. We could talk about how faith leads to REPENTANCE, BAPTISM, and LIVING for God.

Or, we could talk about how everything here is ultimately for God's GLORY and purpose. Pop-culture wants us to believe that life is all about us, but that is false (and quite bleak!). The fact is that life is all about God -- a much more wondrous and meaningful way to live.

We could talk about how a person must be born again by the power of the Holy Spirit (John 3) or how the Gospel is the POWER of God (Romans 1:16).

And even after all of this we still have not focused on the IDENTITY and DIGNITY of Jesus Christ -- who is both fully God and fully man (Philippians 2:5-11)

It is all part of the "the boundless RICHES of Christ" (Ephesians 3:8).

Our Latest Prayer Requests:

In August of 2015 we partnered with Anchored in Truth Ministries. Who woul've thought?! A family from Nazareth, PA and a church from Muscle Shoals, AL would partner together for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the glory of God? But God brings people together for his purpose; all credit to him.
