About Us

An Evangelical Church

The term "evangelical" comes from the Greek word "evangel," translated as "gospel" or "good news." Stated simply, as an evangelical church in Pittsburgh, we believe the gospel, emphasize the gospel, and seek to act on the gospel in our daily lives.

THE BIBLE

While evangelicalism as a whole is a diverse movement that encompasses both healthy and unhealthy elements, we identify with other evangelicals in our high view of the Bible. We believe the Bible is speaks truth not mixed with error. This view is based on the belief that God has produced the Bible through the instrumentality of human authors. God is perfect -- he cannot misspeak the way you or I can misspeak. Therefore, we can trust the Bible as our authority for Spiritual truth. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16).

THE GREAT COMMISSION

We are also an evangelical church in that we believe our mission is to spread the gospel, as Jesus instructs us in Matthew 28:18-20. The church has a distinct mission that reaches beyond its internal needs, and that mission involves joining other evangelical churches as we collectively seek to influence the world with the Gospel. God brings churches together in partnerships for the Gospel.

THE NEED TO BE BORN AGAIN

Historically, evangelical churches have been known for insisting that each person must have a personal conversion in which they repent of their sins and put their trust in Jesus. We wholeheartedly affirm this need, maintaining that no religious ritual (baptistm, etc.) has the power to save. Jesus himself is our only hope of rescue, and he rescues those who exercise repentance and faith. Jesus said, "Do not be amazed that I said: You must be born again" (John 3:7).

Our Latest Prayer Requests:

In August of 2015 we partnered with Anchored in Truth Ministries. Who woul've thought?! A family from Nazareth, PA and a church from Muscle Shoals, AL would partner together for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the glory of God? But God brings people together for his purpose; all credit to him.
